The Platypus System is an amalgamation of different strategies meant to deliver:

• tremendous flexibility to add Feature Modules that are self contained software on hardware with their own resources and dedicated serial control and data channels with a simple protocol to integrate with the main Management Module
• complete security through isolation with no shared memory/disk/network directly between Feature Modules and no network to the Management Module
• hardware and energy usage scales in step with functionality, as each functions brings its own hardware resources
• easy upgrades and expansion with hotswap Feature Modules
